The Tigers went to Tillamook to run at the annual Ultimook Race that happens once a year, We had a JV/Varsity team go.
Stanfield placed 24th as a team was led by Sr. Andrew Thurman (128th, 21:05.50), followed by Jr. Antonio Gablido ( 160th 22:20.20), Sr. Israel Monkus ( 161st, 22:21.70), Soph. Carter Sharp ( 162nd, 22:22.70), Sr. Alex Ibarra (171st 22:5.20) Jr. Jose Rodelo ( 220th 24:21.10)
I caught up with Jose Rodelo (known as “Jamón”) and Gabriel Mendez for their thoughts on the race.
Question: Why was Andrew so far ahead of everyone else?
Answer: “We all decided to stay with each other for the first mile, but Andrew wanted to leave us.” – Jose/Gabe
Question: How did your race go? Were you happy about your performance?
Answer: “My race went really well even though I did not pr I had a very good time, and I was happy about my performance.” – Gabe
Question: What are your goals for this season?
Answer: “My goals for this season is to end the season with no regrets, placing in the top 10 in districts, go to state, and just to have a fun, memorable time with my team.” -Gabe
Question: What advice would you give to younger kids that wanna run?
Answer: “It’s gonna be hard at the start but you gotta keep grinding.” – Jose
