Stanfield Tigers went off to go race at the Community Park Race for Cross Country in Pendleton. Stanfield placed fourth as a whole team that day.
Gabe Mendez said, “ One thing I want to improve is our team’s mentality to better place this team for state.” In this race Gabe placed 10th with his time being 19:38.7 one of our fastest tigers on the team.
Another Tiger, Alex Ibarra (22:33.4), said, “The first race is always the hardest, you never know how hard you’re willing to push yourself, until you push to your max.”
Our last Tiger we interviewed was Carter Sharp, a sophomore at Stanfield. Coming into this race, Carter set a goal with himself to pace with Gabe Mendez. With Gabe being one of the faster tigers Carter was unsure if he’d be able to keep up. This doesn’t mean he did not try; his time was 21:09.0. Comparing this time to Gabe’s, he is very close to achieving his goal.
With hard work this season he will be able to achieve his goal. The Tigers came into this race unsure on how the team would do. This race was more to find where the team needed to work on their skills, and hone their abilities to place in state this upcoming season.
